Edward Lear

I re-discovered Edward Lear through The British Library. I was researching Illustration from the 19th Century and while I was familiar with Lear's Travel Paintings and Illustrations of Animals, I wasn't aware that he wrote The Owl and The Pussycat and published various Books of Nonsense that contain brilliant and simple illustrations of his attempts at Limericks (five line - usually crude - and funny rhymes). I am currently working on a three picture story illustrating Lear's Rhyming tale about The Table and The Chair. Its a great challenge! You can see one of the spreads here on my portfolio page
